한글 창제 철학에 담긴 공공정보디자인적 특성

초록
20세기 내내 디자인은 산업 사회의 중요한 동력으로 인식되며, 인간 삶의 형식을 최적화하는데 중요한 도구로 활용되어 왔다. 하지만 이 과정에서 우리 디자인은 서구의 생각과 역사에 비춰 우리를 설명하는데 치중해 온 것을 부인할 수 없다. 우리는 역사적으로 서구와는 전혀 다른 가치관과 정신세계를 가져왔다. 하지만 이제는 조심스럽게 우리가 가진 생각의 틀을 들여다보고, 그 속에 자리 잡고 있을 우리 디자인 철학의 실마리를 하나씩 찾는 일을 더 이상 늦추기는 어렵다. 이러한 사실을 뒷받침하고자 연구자는 이 연구의 전개에 앞서 몇 가지 가설을 세우고자 하는데, 첫째, 우리 생각의 뿌리에는 서구의 그것과는 확연히 다른 우리만의 인식론적 배경이 담겨 있기에 이를 근거로 우리 디자인을 우리의 생각으로 담고, 설명해내는 일이 가능할 것이라는 점, 둘째, 우리 역사상 가장 위대한 디자인 결과물로서 한글의 창제 철학 속에 현대 정보디자인적 관점과 매우 유사한 특징들이 담겨 있다는 점, 셋째, 조선 초기 유교적 전통에 기초한 통치론적 공(公)의 철학이 존재했었고, 이 철학적 배경에서 한글이 탄생했다는 점 등이 그것이다. 이제 우리의 사상적 기초 속에서 우리 디자인에 면면히 흘러 온 보이지 않는 생각의 줄기들을 찾아 그것이 지금 우리의 디자인 행위와 결과에 어떤 영향을 미치는지 검토하는 일이 무엇보다도 시급하다 하겠다. Abstract
Throughout the 20th century, design has been recognized as an integral force that drives the industrialized society, an important tool that is utilized in optimizing people’s lives. In Korea’s case, as the country industrialized the design field concentrated on explaining Design through Western ideas and history.Compared to the Westerners, the Koreans have historically held a completely different set of values and a state of mind. Now is the time to carefully examine the framework that makes up the Korean state of mind, systematically looking for clues to Korean design philosophy that are most likely to be part of the Korean’s state of mind.As such, I came up with several hypotheses before carrying out this study. Firstly, there is an epistemological background at the heart of the Korean way of thinking that is clearly different from that of Westerners. Thus, it is possible to express and explain the Korean design within the framework of how Koreans think. Secondly, the formative philosophy of Hangul (the written portion of the Korean language), one of the most impressive design solutions in the Korean history, has characteristics very similar to the problem-solving ways of modern information design. Thirdly, in the early Joseon dynasty (1392-1910) there was once a philosophy of public interest for administration based on the tradition of Confucianism. Hangul was created from such a philosophical background. Today, it is imperative that we discover the long-standing central themes in Korean design through Koreans’ ideological foundation, and to examine how these same ideas influence Koreans’ design activities and their subsequent results.(Keyword) Hangul, Formative Philosophy, Public,Information Design
