후기 산업주의 디자인과 그 트렌드에 관한 연구

산업사회의 등장 이후 끊임없이 논의되어온 후기 산업주의(post-industrialism)는 이제야 본격적으로 우리들이 생활에서 느낄 수 있을 만큼 가깝게 다가와 있다. 후기 산업주의의 가장 핵심이 되는 키워드는 비물질성 (immateriality)이라고 할 수 있는데, 좀 더 구체적으로 말하면 서비스(service), 정보(information), 지식(knowledge)이 그 대표적인 것이다. 이러한 비물질적인 것들을 사용자에게 전달하는 매개체로서의 역할을 수행하는 것이 후기 산업주의 디자인의 한가지 트렌드이다. 이러한 시대적 배경 뿐만 아니라, 기술의 발전과 제품 사이클의 성숙화는 좀 더 기술이나 기능에 구애받지 않는 디자인 트렌드를 이끌어 내었다. 이러한 맥락에서 후기 산업주의의 가장 강력한 디자인 트렌드는 은유적 디자인(metaphor design)과 시적 해석(poetic dimension)으로 구분해 볼 수 있는데, 이 두 양식의 공통적인 점은 낭만성, 상징과 은유의 차용 등에서 찾아볼 수 있다. 그 중에서도 1998년 애플 사가 생산한 아이맥(iMac)의 등장 이후 반투명 재질과 색상의 다양화로 대변되는 유희적인 디자인인 시적 해석(poetic dimension)이 현재는 지배적인 트렌드로서 확고한 자리를 점유하고 있다.
Abstract
After the Industrialism, long-lasting issues about Post-Industrialism have closely been associated with our daily lives. The keyword of Post-Industrialism could be regarded as Immateriality, which is represented by service, Information and knowledge. In the Post-Industrial society, the major role of Post-Industrial design trend is a mediator to deliver the immateriality to users. Additionally, the maturity of technologies and product life cycle have leaded users to the design trend that is free from the technologies and functions of products. In this context, the most powerful trend of the Post-Industrial design could be metaphor designand poetic dimension. The similarity of these two styles is situated in the romanticism -reflection of symbol and metaphor. However, the appearance of Apple's iMac in 1998, poetic dimension, which uses transparent plastic and colourful, pleasurable 'blobjects' has dominated the post-industrial design trend.
