한국 일반은행의 고유특성이 은행의 합병？피합병에 미친 영향분석: 다항로짓모형접근

This study addresses the impact of bank specific characteristics on Korean banks' various experiences in Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A). According to various experiences in the banking sector regarding M&A, we classify Korean banks into 4 categories and then analyze the impact of M&A on bank efficiencies and other bank specific characteristics. Some of the main findings of this study are: 1) Banks with higher production efficiencies are likely to be classified under the category of banks experiencing only merging and having survived thus far; 2) Banks with higher BIS ratios tend to be classified either into the categories of banks experiencing only merging or experiencing neither merging nor being merged; 3) Banks with higher corporate loan ratios are likely to be categorized under the groups of banks having experienced only merging or neither merging nor being merged, and; 4) Banks with relatively many domestic branches and a higher public loan ratio have higher tend to be categorized as banks having experienced only merging. Our study implies that concentrating on corporate loans and maintaining long-term as well as sound relationships with customer companies is likely to enhance bank efficiency and their survival probabilities.
