동북아 보험시장의 변화와 국내보험회사의 해외진출 전략

This paper suggests international expansion strategies for Korean insurance companies based on the Northeast Asian insurance market analysis and the insurers' capability evaluation using SWOT analysis. The analysis was made in the framework of motivation, basic condition, expansion methods, and market strategy. It was analyzed that property-liability insurers are more appropriate for international expansion than life insurers and large insurers are more appropriate than medium and small insurers in terms of motivation. Establishing a network with local insurer or multi-national insurer is the most recommended method to provide global service for the multi-national corporate clients. To secure a new source of profits, expansion to emerging markets, such as China and India, in the form of branch office or local subsidiary, would be appropriate. For the life insurer, local subsidiary company would be a preferred form of expansion method for diversifying and increasing the investment profits. When entering the Chinese market, it is required to utilize the prevalent 'Korean Wave' based on cultural homogeneity. International expansion with 'Me-too reasons' should be avoided, because it involves high probability of failure.
