초록
The contingent workers currently account for over 56% of the entire wage and salaried workers in Korea. While the proportion of the contingent workers increases in Korea, the previous research is ambiguous about how employment status affects the job attitudes such as job involvement. This study investigates the differences in predictors of job involvement between permanent and contingent workers. The key questions are can contingent workers be committed to their job as permanent workers do, and what determines job involvement of each form of worker? The study conducted questionnaire survey for 391 permanent and contingent workers employed with 4 major banks in Korea. The main findings of the study are as follows. First, there is a significant difference in job involvement according to employment status. Second, the job involvement of contingent workers are more determined by job significance, employment stability, reward fairness, salary level and tenure, while that of permanent workers are determined by employment stability and tenure. The implications and the limitations of the study as well as the future research directions are discussed.
