부모의 이혼이 청소년 자녀의 심리사회적 적응에 미치는영향: 양육부모의 경제수준 및 양육행동의 매개효과를 중심으로

This study examines whether there are significant differences in self-esteem, school performance, and withdrawn, anxious/depressed, and aggressive behavior between adolescent children living with one divorced parent and those with two biological parents. It also analyzes how family income and parenting affect the effects of divorce on children's psycho-social adjustment. Survey method was used and the data of 1042 middle- and high-school students (101 from divorced families and 941 from intact families) were analyzed. The study found that self-esteem and school performance were significant low and withdrawn and aggressive behaviors were high among children from divorced families compared to those from intact families, while anxious/depressed behaviors showed no differences. Although divorce directly affected children's school performance, it indirectly affected other psycho-social adjustment variables through family income. Family income affected by divorce either directly affected or indirectly affected children's adjustment through parenting. Since there was no effect of divorce on parenting, parenting was not found to have a mediating effect between parental divorce and children's adjustment. This result supports the economical deficiency perspective that divorce will lower family's economical status, which will negatively affect children's adjustment.
