호텔산업에서의 바이오메트릭 기술의 적용과 문제

Identity theft and related fraud is growing each year and researches gauged consumers' interest toward innovative methods of identification verification, such as biometrics. Biometrics is the automated use of physiological or behavior characteristics, such as fingerprint[c1], to determine or verify identity. Hotel customers who both reveal important personal information and demand their convenient security will clearly value this new technology. Hospitality experts predict that biometrics will play an important role in the future due to reduced cost of the technology and increased consumer acceptance. At the same time, there are critical issues to be considered from hotel customers' point of view. This paper will present an overview of biometric technology, current practices of biometrics with special reference to the hotel industry, and address critical issues in deploying this new technology in the hotel industry. Since biometrics is an up-to-date technology in the hotel industry, a few literatures are available for obtaining information about both biometrics and the hotel industry. By suggesting both possible applications and critical issues of biometrics applications in the hotel industry[c2], this paper will motivate researchers to extend their studies of biometrics related to the hotel industry.
