Downsizing Relationship on Job Stress and Job Satisfaction of Hotel Employees

The financial crisis occurred in Southern Asian countries puts the Korean hotel industry into a plunge in operating income. To reduce costs and to liberate from the tight profit scale, five-star hotels in Korea stepped on a restructuring process. This paper explores job stress and job performance of employees when downsizing takes place in a hotel. The purpose of this study is to identify downsizing as a stressor that affects role strain and job performance. A convenience sampling of hotel employees was administered and collected 279 responses. It is shown that downsizing has a significant relationship with symptoms of stress and job performance which is also appeared to deteriorate the quality of customer service in hotel industry.
