영국의 미술과 디자인 교육과정 담론 분석

본 연구는 영국의 미술과 디자인(Art & Design) 영국의 미술교과는 ‘Art & Design’이라는 과목명을 가지고 있다. 산업혁명이후 디자인 산업과 발달로 순수예술과 디자인이 엄격히 분리되어 있다가 이후 통합된 미술교육의 역사를 말해주듯이 두 영역을 통칭하여 하나의 과목명으로 정해졌다. 교육과정의 기원부터 현행까지 한 국가의 미술교육과정이 사회통제의 효율적 수단으로서 한 국가 속에서 어떻게 창조되며 지속해 왔는지를 분석한다. 영국은 국가교육과정이라는 중앙통제적인 제도적 장치를 가지고 있는 점에서, 우리나라의 그것과 유사한 체제를 가지고 있다. 그러나 비교적 짧은 교육과정의 역사를 지닌 우리나라에 비해 영국의 미술과 디자인 교육과정은 오랜 역사를 가지고 독특한 사회적, 문화적, 경제적, 정치적 배경 안에서 자체적으로 형성, 운영 되어 왔고, 그동안 우리가 의심 없이 간과해 왔던 교육과정의 형성 원인과 배경들을 보다 명료하게 드러내 준다. 이러한 분석은 교육 이념, 정치적 영향, 인지발달심리학이라는 세 가지 교육과정 배경들의 관점에서 한 국가의 교육과정 담론과 더불어 미술교육의 역할에 대한 자각을 제공한다.
Abstract
An Examination of discourses on English National Curriculum for Art & Design Jeong, Ok-Hee (Seogkwan Middle School) This study examines a national curriculum discourse how a nation creates and supports the National Curriculum as a means of social control, through exploring from the original to the current National Curriculum for Art & Design in England. The National Curriculum for Art & Design in England has been created and enforced by institutional apparatus within the historical, social and cultural contexts. The educational institution unified and controlled by the National Curriculum is similar to Korean's. Comparing with Korean's short history of the National Curriculum, however, English National Curriculum for Art & Design reveals a certain mechanism of a national curriculum with its long historical, social, cultural, economic and political contexts. This is examined in terms of three curriculum contexts; educational ideologies, political influences and cognitive developmental psychologies. This examination gives an opportunity to be aware how art education should be within national curriculum discourses.
