전자화폐 확산이 통화흐름에 미치는 영향의 실증분석

초록
최근 급속한 전자화폐의 이용증가는 통화수요, 통화승수, 통화의 유통속도에 영향을 미칠 것으로 추측된다. 이에 본 연구는 전자화폐의 확산이 가속화된 2003년까지의 분기별 시계열자료를 이용한 다중회귀분석을 통해 전자화폐의 확산이 통화흐름에 미치는 영향을 실증적으로 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 전자화폐의 증가는 본원통화의 일부를 대체함으로써 통화수요(M1)를 감소시키는 것으로 나타났으나, M2, M3의 통화수요와는 정(+) 관계를 갖는 것으로 분석되었다. 그리고 통화승수와 분석에서는 전자화폐의 확산이 M1, M2, M3 모두 정(+)의 상관관계로 통화승수를 높이는 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 전자화폐의 확산과 유통속도의 관계에서 M1과는 부(-), M2 및 M3에서는 정(+)의 관계로 일관성이 없지만 M2, M3에 정(+)의 관계를 보인다는 것은 전자화폐의 확산이 통화의 유통속도를 높이는 것으로 추정할 수 있다. 이는 전자화폐의 확산이 통화량의 유동성을 높여 중앙은행의 금융통화정책의 수립과 집행을 비효율적으로 만들 가능성이 있다는 것을 의미한다. 따라서 중앙은행은 전자결제 및 전자화폐의 확산이 통화정책에 미치는 파급경로를 정확하게 분석하고, 통화량의 변동을 유량의 관점에서 파악할 수 있는 새로운 통화지표를 개발하여 금융통화정책 수행 시 적극적으로 활용해야할 것으로 사료된다.
Abstract
Recently, the increase of fast electronic money will expected have effect on the flow of currency demand, currency multiplier, circulation velocity of currency. This study analyzed effect that spread of electronic money is influencing the flow of currency through multiple regression model with time series data by 1990-2003. As a result of analysis, it was expose that increase of electronic money reduce currency demand(M1) by replacing some of reserve money, and raise currency multiplier of M1, M2, M3, also heightens Currency velocity of M2, M3.This means that spread of electronic money may be enlarge fluidity of Currency and makes inefficient banking monetary policy of central bank.Therefore, central bank will have to recognize exactly that the Spread of electronic money is affecting monetary policy, Also need to develop a new Currency index for efficient banking monetary policy.
