토요타 생산시스템의 도입 전제조건에 관한 연구 - 한일자동차부품기업의 사례를 중심으로 -

초록
일본의 제조업 경쟁력이 국제적으로 비교우위를 갖게 된 배경에는 일본 생산시스템의 차별성에 있다고 할 수 있다. 이러한 일본의 생산시스템은 토요타자동차회사에서 개발된 토요타생산시스템 또는 린 생산시스템이 토대가 된 것으로 1980년대 이후 세계적으로 많은 연구성과와 적용사례가 발표되어 왔다. 본 연구에서는 한국과 일본의 자동차부품업체를 대상으로 한 비교분석을 통해 토요타생산시스템을 성공적으로 도입하기 위해서는 어떠한 선결조건이 필요한지를 고찰하였다. 분석 결과 한국기업은 동일하게 토요타생산시스템을 도입하고 있으며 일본으로부터 기술을 이전받고 있음에도 불구하고, 한국기업의 노동생산성과 품질은 일본기업 보다 약 3배 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 차이의 원인은 한국기업이 토요타생산시스템 도입에 요구되는 조건들을 충족시키지 못한데서 오는 것으로, 본 연구에서는 한국기업이 토요타생산시스템의 실시하는데 있어 필요한 이전상황, 도입저해요인 등을 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 일본으로부터 기술을 도입하고 있는 국내의 협력기업이 토요타생산시스템을 도입하기 위해서는 우선 일본기업으로부터 공정 내의 생산관리기술이 이전되어야 하고, 이러한 이전과 도입활동을 원활히 수행하기 위해 인력개발이 필요하며, 또한 이전 이후에도 전사적이며 지속적인 개선활동과 교육훈련이 병행되어야 한다는 점이 밝혀졌다. 그리고 이전된 생산관리기술을 유지 개선하기 위해서는 숙련된 기술자육성과 기술축적이 요구되며, 이를 위해 무엇보다도 안정적인 노동력 공급, 임금제도, 작업조직 등 기업내부환경의 개선이 필요하다는 점을 제안하였다.
Abstract
This paper aims at proposing preconditions to introduce Toyota Production System which is developed by the Toyota Motor Company. Since 1980's global competitiveness of Japanese companies has based on Japanese manufacturing system called as the Toyota Production System(TPS) or Lean Production System(LPS). The production system has spread all over the world companies and also has been studied by European or American global companies for a long time. At first, we described the principles of TPS to evaluate the efficiency in production system. Then, we compared Korean firm with Japanese firm with respect to efficient supply of automobile parts to investigate the conditions for a successful adoption of the system. From the survey we found that the labor productivity and product quality of Korean company was inferior to that of Japan's company in spite of the TPS introduction. The result shows that Korea's company do not satisfy the conditions of the TPS. Finally, we proposed important requisitions to effectively introduce the TPS system from Japan. Furthermore, we revealed that well skillful technician and accumulated technology are required to manage the production system effectively.
