프로야구 선수들의 성과 평가와 관리

프로야구 리그는 국가경제에 무시할 수 없는 파급효과를 가지는 중요한 사업으로 발전해 왔다. 많은 사람들이 여가생활의 일부로 야구 경기를 즐기고 있고, 이러한 인기를 반영하듯 선수들의 연봉도 빠르게 증가해 왔다. 이러한 선수들의 연봉을 결정하는 기준으로 구단 경영자들은 선수들의 성과를 정확하고 객관적으로 평가할 필요가 있다. 이러한 취지에서 본 논문은 성과 지표로서 데이터포락분석(Data Envelopment Analysis)을 활용해서 선수들의 기술적인 효율성을 추정하고, 회귀분석을 통해서 이러한 기술적인 효율성에 영향을 미치는 요인들을 분석한다. 기술적인 효율성 추정의 결과는 선수들 사이에 기술적인 효율성에서의 차이와 기술적인 효율성의 상당한 개선의 여지가 존재함을 보여준다. 더 나아가서 각 선수는 비효율성의 측면에서도 다른 양상을 보여주고 있다. 회귀분석의 결과는 경력이 길고 당해 시즌에 많은 경기에 출전한 선수가 더 효율적임을 보여준다. 그리고 당해연도 연봉은 해당 선수의 효율성에 영향을 미치지 못하는 반면, 소속팀의 성적이 좋을수록, 팀 전체 연봉이 작을수록, 팀내 선수 간 연봉 격차가 클수록 효율성이 높아짐을 발견했다.
Abstract
Professional baseball league has become an important industry which has a considerable impact on the economy of a country. Many people enjoy the game as a part of leisure life and as a result, salary of players has been increased very much. As a base of players' salary decision, it is necessary for team managements to evaluate players' performance objectively and accurately. This paper estimates the technical efficiency of players as performance measure by Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) and also estimates the factors which affect the technical efficiency by regression analysis. The results of technical efficiency estimation show that there exists a substantial opportunity for improvement in technical efficiency of players and also the heterogeneity in the technical efficiency between players. Moreover, each player has different inefficient inputs from other players. The results of regression analysis show that players who appeared more game and have played long are more efficient. Players in team with better team performance are more efficient, players in team with more total salary are less efficient, and players in team with more disparity in salary between players are more efficient while salary does not affect technical efficiency.
