인터랙티브 시스템 디자인에서 사용편의성은 기능성만큼 중요한 것으로 널리 인식되고 있다. 그러나 장애자용 시스템과 같이 사용편의성을 심각하게 고려해야 하는 곳에서도 그 사고의 범위는 전형적인 사무실 환경의 “평균적인 사용자”에 한정되는 경향이 있다. 본 논문의 목적은 사용자에 대한 개인차를 문헌상의 주요 발견들을 기초로 정리하고, 평균적인 사용자로서가 아닌 다차원적인 사용자로서 그 개인차를 인터랙티브 시스템과 사용자 사이의 인터랙션에 적용할 수 있는 가능성을 탐색해 보는 것이다. 이를 위해 인간-시스템 상호작용 개념을 바탕으로 접근성, 사용성 그리고 수용성을 기초로 하는 개념적 틀을 제시하였으며, 인터랙티브 시스템 디자이너가 개인차를 조화시키기 위하여 취할 수 있는 몇가지 접근방법에 대해 기술하였는데, 비적응적 시스템이지만 철저하게 사용목적에 부합되도록 디자인하는 방법, 부가적인 보조도구로서 어댑터를 사용하는 방법, 맞춤조정이 가능하도록 하는 방법, 상호작용의 당사자들이 자동적으로 적응하도록 하는 방법이 그것이다.
Abstract
Usability is widely recognized to be as important as functionality to the success of interactive systems. However, even where usability is considered seriously, the scope of thinking tends to be restricted to the so-called "average" users in typical office situations. Our aim in this paper is to summarize some of the key findings in the literature on individual defferences, exploring their implications for interactive system design. A framework comprising the characteristics of accessiblity, usability and acceptability is presented to relate the salient factors to existing User-Product Interaction concepts. This paper outlines a number of approaches that designers can take to accommodate individual differences, that is the mutually compatible design method, the use of an adaptor, the customization and the automatic adaptation.
