초록
Streptomyces coelicolor M145 genome harborssix copies of divergent rRNA operons that difer at ~0.2% and~0.6% of the nucleotide positions in small subunit (SSU) andlarge subunit (LSU) rRNA genes, respectively. When these rRNAgenes are expresed, a single cel may harbor three differentkinds of SSU rRNA and five kinds of LSU rRNA. Primerextension analyses revealed that all of the heterogeneousrRNA molecules are expressed and assembled into ribosomes. This finding and the maintenance of the intragenomicvariability of rRNA operons imply the existence of functionaldivergence of rRNA species in this developmentally complexmicrorganism.
