당 태종의 군주역할론 : 『貞觀政要』를 중심으로

The role of a monarch from the viewpoint of Emperor Taizong of Tang dynasty according to the book “Zhenguan zhengyao” This research analyzes the basis of Emperor Taizong of Tang`s reputation as the greatest emperor in all of Chinese history in the framework of Confucian theory of role of a monarch. We evaluate his so -called "reign of Zhenguan" under three categories, namely, qualification, duty and behavior. In a nutshell, he made every effort to build a virtuous world through the synergism of sainted emperor`s "wuwei" policy and competent officials`"youwei" policy. Unexcepyionally, he failed to persist through his original ambition. But he showed great magnanimity to his subject` earnest and severe criticism. Taizong based his rule on Confucian philosophy : Confucian conceive dignified politics and humane world, and they believe that a monarch plays the most important role in realizing their philosophy. To be the ideal monarch imaged in Confucian philosophy, Taizong set himself in person well as an example, devoted himself to feeding his people well, simplified the law, reduced the tax, and created graceful social mores. His reign is as the best, unprecedented time. For this reason, Taizong is honored as the best emperor among 406 emperors recorded in Chinese history. This work focuses on the book "Zhenguan zhengyao" to evaluate Taizong`s merits and demerits. We recount Taizong`s glorious, successful rule in his early reign and the maladministration in his late year, and discuss the moral we can learn thereof.
