Intellectual Property Rights and World Politics of International Regime: The Formation and Limitation of TRIPs Despite the existence of international regime such as TRIPs(Trade Related Intellectual Property Rights), we observe increasing conflicts on intellectual property rights(IPRs) among nations in the recent years. TRIPs was established in order to manage intellectual property which is increasingly circulated above borders in 21st century. However, disputes on IPRs among states still maintain and states such as the US even search other processes of resolving disputes through bilateral agreements. This article tries to analyze why international regime as TRIPs has limitations in resolving disputes among states contrary to the expectations of neo-liberal institutionalists. It analyzes the formation of and the process of resolving disputes on intellectual property through TRIPs focusing on power relations and interests of states. In particular, this paper focuses on how US filter its interest into international regime of IPRs and on the political implications of the limitation of IPRs regime on world politics.
