소크라테스 대화법에 나타난 대화의 구조 분석

초록
소크라테스 대화법(Socratic dialectics)은 수학적 지식의 교육에 있어 근본적인 교수 방법으로 그리고 최초의 발견적 수업 방법으로 인식되고 있다. 이는 구성주의의 관점에서 교사-학생 간의 대화가 교수-학습에서 기본적인 수단으로 인정받고 있는 것과 같은 맥락에서 볼 수 있다. 플라톤 의 대화편 <메논>에는 소크라테스와 메논의 사동과의 ‘기하학적 사고 실험’이 등장하며, 여기서 주 대화자인 소크라테스의 질문에 대해 대화상대자인 사동의 대답은 모두 50차례 전개된다. 본 연구 는 이 ‘기하학적 사고 실험’을 대화의 형식에 따라, 특히 논박적 대화의 구조에 따라 분석하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 논박적 대화의 두 축이 되는 질문과 대답의 유형을 구분하고, 논박적 대화의 각 단계에서 이러한 질문과 대답이 어떻게 변화하는지를 살펴본다. 특히 소크라테스의 질문에서 그 유형 변화가 논박적 대화가 진행되는 각 단계에서 어떻게 이루어지는가를 살펴보았으며, 더불어 이러한 질문의 변화에 따라 사동의 대답이 어떻게 변화하는지를 살펴본다. 그 결과를 요약하면 ‘기 하학적 사고 실험’은 논박적 대화의 구조 측면에서 새로운 전제가 도입되고, 이러한 새로운 전제에 대해 질문과 대답으로부터 중간 결론이 도출되는 절차를 거치면서 새로운 지식에 대한 탐구가 전 개되고 있음을 확인할 수 있다. 또한 이 사고 실험은 두 가지 성격의 논박적 대화(반박→탐구)로 구성되어 있음을 확인할 수 있는데, 특히 이러한 대화에서 명제의 확인이 대화상대자인 사동에 의 해 이루어지고 있음을 입증함으로써 사동의 긍정적인 역할과 사고 과정을 비롯하여 소크라테스와 사동 간의 관계 및 대화 전반의 구조에 대해 살펴본다.
Abstract
It is Socratic dialectics that is essential (excellent) didactics to the education of mathematical knowledge and the first heuristic method. From the constructivism perspectives, dialogues between teacher and students are the fundamental resources to analysis lessons. In <Menon>, one of Platon' <Dialogues>, there is 'geometric thought experiment' which is composed of dialogues between Socrates and Menon' slave (boy). The 'geometric thought experiment' is processed with 50 questions and answers. This paper aims at the analysis of this 'geometric thought experiment' using of the format of dialogue and the questions-answers in reputative (elenktisch) dialogues forms. In conclusion, the 'geometric thought experiment' consist of two kinds of reputative (elenktisch) dialogues, one is contradiction (refutation) and the other is exploration (investigation). And new propositions and premises are determined by Menon' slave, and intermediate conclusions are introduced by the questions-answers in reputative (elenktisch) dialogues. Therefore it is possible to investigate new knowledges through these questions-answers (dialogues) in Socratic dialectics.
