역량기반 치의학교육의 개념과 교육철학적 의미에 대한 고찰 -ADEA의 역량 규정을 중심으로-
A Study on the Concept and the Pedagogical Meaning of the Competency-based Dental Education: Based on the Competency Profile of ADEA(American Dental Education Association)

본 연구는 ADEA(American Dental Education Association)의 역량 규정을 중심으로 하여 역량기반 치의학교육(competency-based dental education)의 개념과 교육철학적 의미에 대한 기초적 논의를 시도하였다. 역량기반교육이란 전문직업인의 본질적 역할을 정의하고, 그 역할을 실제로 수행하기 위한 역량을 규정하고, 규정된 역량을 달성할 수 있도록 하는 교육과정과 교육방법을 통하여 학습자를 교육하고, 역량 평가에 적합한 평가 방식을 통하여 교육의 결과를 평가하는 교육이다. 역량 있는 전문직업인의 양성을 위하여 치과대학이나 치의학전문대학원은 졸업생들이 비판적 사고, 전문직업정신, 의사소통능력, 정보의 수집과 관리능력, 진단과 치료계획, 진료의 기술과 같은 치과의사의 역량을 갖추도록 교육의 목표, 내용, 방법, 평가를 쇄신할 필요가 있다. 역량기반 치의학교육이 지닌 교육철학적 의미는 한 개인의 직업을 통한 자아실현과 사회에 대한 기여 사이의 연결고리를 형성하고자 한다는 점에서 찾을 수 있다.
Abstract
'Competency' has become a substantial and a global key-word for redefining and reforming the professional education, so it's very urgent to understand the concept, viewpoint, and peculiarity of competency-based education. So the researcher tried to review the basic discussions on the competency-based dental education based on the competency profile of ADEA. Competency-based education starts with the definition of the profession and competencies which the profession must have. In views of competency-based education, a general dentist must have the competency of critical thinking, professionalism, communication skills, practice management and informatics, and patient care. In order to implement the competency-based education, the goal, the contents, the way, the evaluation of education should be redefined and reformed. Competency-based dental education has the educational meaning because it can make a person realize their professional potentiality fully and make him/her contribute to the society through the self-realization.
