국제투자전략을 위한 한국과 미국시장의 관계에 대한 연구: 정보이전효과를 중심으로

본 연구의 목적은 글로벌시장 환경 하에서 미국의 S&P 500주가지수 수익률과 거래량을 이용하여 한국주식시장의 수익률과 거래량에 대한 정보이전효과의 실증분석을 통해 국제투자전략을 모색하는 데 있다. 본 연구의 분석자료로 2000년 1월 4일부터 2005년 12월 19일까지 양시장의 일일종가 수익률, 수익률 변동성, 거래량 및 거래변화량을 이용하였다. 실증분석을 위해 VAR모형에 오차수정항을 포함한 벡터오차수정모형(VECM: Vector Error Correction Model)을 이용한 그랜즈 인과관계분석(Granger causality tests), 충격반응함수분석(Impulse Response Function Analysis) 및 분산분해분석을 실시하였다. 또한 분석결과의 일관성을 높이기 위해 전체표본기간을 하락기(2000/1/4-2001/9/12)와 상승기(2002/4/9-2005/12/19)장세로 나누었다. 주요 결과를 살펴보면 첫째, 기존의 여러 연구들의 결과와 마찬가지로 S&P 500주가지수의 수익률이 한국종합주가지수의 수익률에 영향을 미친다는 사실은 본 연구에서도 전체분석기간 뿐만 아니라 장세별 연구에서도 일관성 있는 결과를 보여주었다. 둘째, 미국의 S&P 500주가지수의 수익률은 한국종합주가지수의 거래량의 변화에도 전체표본기간, 하락기 및 상승기 표본기간동안 영향을 미치고 있음을 보였다. 셋째, 미국의 S&P 500주가지수의 거래량은 한국주식시장의 하락장세의 경우에만 한국종합주가지수의 수익률과 거래량에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 분석결과는 글로벌시장 환경 하에서 국제포트폴리오를 구성하는 투자자들의 국제투자전략에 다소나마 도움이 될 것으로 판단된다.
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to investigate international investment strategies through the analysis of the dynamic relationship between KOSPI and S&P 500 index with both price change and trading volume employing the daily closing prices from January 4, 2000 to December 19, 2005. We introduce the Granger causality analysis, impulse response and variance decomposition analysis with the VECM model. To have more consistent results, we divided the whole sample into two sub-samples. The main empirical results are as follows. First, the return and volatility of S&P 500 tend to lead those of KOSPI strongly both during the whole sample period and during bull and bear market periods, consistent with previous studies. Second, we also find that the change of trading volume of S&P 500 has a strong impact on the return and volume of KOSPI during the bear market period alone.
