A Historical Perspective on the Concept of the Constitution

In this article, the author attempt to describe a historical development of the concept of the constitution in modern Korea. The constitution in western meaning was first introduced in Korea through the newspaper, for example, Hansungsoonbo, Doknipshinmun(The Independence), Dekookshinmun(The Imperial) etc. The term constitution also described in various legal text books and magazines during the period from 1900 to 1910. Practically the concept of the constitution realized in Korea as the terms, for example, Hongbum 14 articles of 1894, Kukje(constitution) of 1899, Provisional charter of the Republic of Korea in Shanghai of 1919 and revived finally in the constitution of the Republic of Korea of 1948.
