초록
This study investigates the effects of unions on the nonstandard work arrangements, using individual level data and establishment level data. I find that union representation is negatively associated with the nonstandard work arrangements. Moreover, the results revealed no differences across nonstandard work employment type. But using establishment level data, I find that union representation isn't associated with the in-subcontract work. These results support the bargaining power hypothesis that the unions would restrain the use of the nonstandard work arrangements in order to strengthen bargaining power, rather than the insider-outsider hypothesis
Abstract
This study investigates the effects of unions on the nonstandard work arrangements, using individual level data and establishment level data. I find that union representation is negatively associated with the nonstandard work arrangements. Moreover, the results revealed no differences across nonstandard work employment type. But using establishment level data, I find that union representation isn't associated with the in-subcontract work. These results support the bargaining power hypothesis that the unions would restrain the use of the nonstandard work arrangements in order to strengthen bargaining power, rather than the insider-outsider hypothesis
