BSC 도입의 자원배분 변경효과 및 기업가치와의 관련성에 관한 연구

BSC는 자원배분과 전략실행의 도구로서 조직가치의 제고에 기여할 것으로 기대되고 있다. 본 연구는 두 가지 주제에 대해 분석한다. 먼저, BSC의 전략실행력 제고를 위해서는 경영층이 BSC 정신을 따라 조직의 자원을 적절히 배분하는 것이 선행되어야 한다. 본 연구는 지식자원(knowledge asset)에 대한 지출 분석을 통해 BSC를 도입한 기업과 그렇지 않은 기업들 및 BSC 도입 전, 후에 자원배분에 있어서 차이가 있는지를 분석한다. 분석 결과, BSC를 도입한 기업들이 도입하지 않은 기업에 비해 지식자산에 대한 투자가 높은 편이지만, BSC를 도입한 이후에 특별히 증가한 것은 발견하지 못했다. 두 번째 주제로서, BSC의 기업가치 제고효과를 분석한다. 이를 위해 지식자산에 대한 투자 및 BSC 도입여부가 기업가치에 미치는 영향을 분석한다. 분석 결과, 지식자산에 대한 투자규모가 기업가치에 대체로 정의 영향을 미치며, BSC 도입 전후로 기업가치에 차이(증가)가 있음을 발견하였다. 이는 BSC 도입 기업이 BSC 도입 이후 지식자산과 관련된 지출을 특별히 증가시키지는 않았지만 BSC 도입 시점 이후 기업가치는 증가했음을 보여주는 것이라 할 수 있다.
Abstract
BSC is being widely introduced as a management control device facilitating strategy implementation. This study analyses two themes. First, it questions the difference, if any, in the resource allocation; whether under BSC schemes managers increase expenditure related to nonfinancial performance, so called, knowledge asset, in terms of education, R&D, and marketing costs/expenses. Secondly, the study analyses the effect of BSC introduction on firm value measured by shareholder equity's market value. We find no evidence that BSC-adoption firms increase their expenditure, compared to prior to the adoption of BSC though BSC-adoption firms generally carry out more expenditure on knowledge asset than non-adoption firms. In spite of this result, we find that after the introduction of BSC firm value increased, suggesting the possibility of BSC introduction having a positive effect on firm value.
