본 연구에서는 정보시스템의 한계요인을 분석하여, 이를 극복하고 개선된 서비스를 제공하기 위해 시맨틱 웹이 어떻게 채택될 수 있는가에 대한 해답을 찾고자 하였다. 따라서 먼저 현재 통합 정보시스템의 대표적 사례라 할 수 있는 전사적자원관리 시스템의 한계요인을 도출하였다. 실증분석결과, 전사적자원관리 시스템의 불만족을 야기시키는 한계요인은 검색한계와 통합한계인 것으로 나타났다. 이에 시맨틱 웹이 정보시스템의 검색과 통합한계를 극복하고 서비스를 개선하기 위해 조직에서 시맨틱 웹을 채택하는데 영향을 주는 요인을 분석하기 위해 이를 채택한 조직을 대상으로 다중사례 분석을 실시하였다. 다중사례분석의 결과를 기반으로 시맨틱 웹 채택과 확산을 위한 모델을 도출하여 시맨틱 웹 채택에 관한 4가지 명제를 제안하였다. 기존 서비스의 개선과 신규 서비스에 대한 요구로써의 디맨드 풀, 시맨틱 웹 기술의 저변 확대와 정부지원 프로젝트 등의 기술 푸시, 신기술 도입을 위한 지원 시스템과 담당자의 역량과 열정 등의 흡수능력이 시맨틱 웹 채택의 결정요인이 된다. 시맨틱 웹 기술혁신이 채택 후에도 지속적으로 확산되기 위해서는 후속 사업에 대한 예산확보와 일정 규모의 서비스를 통한 가시적 효과를 조직 내부는 물론이고 고객들에게 제공하는 것이 중요하다.
Abstract
Is the Semantic Web an alternative for overcoming limitations of existing information systems? What are determinants of adopting the Semantic Web innovation? This paper seeks to answer the above questions. It is no less important to identify limitation factors or barriers of existing information technology(IT) or information systems(IS) than their success factors. The former plays a role of negative feedback to improve IS performance while the latter is a positive feedback. The first purpose of this study is to identify the limitations of current information systems with an empirical study. Researcher analyzed the factors that affect user dissatisfaction in Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) through a survey with 190 samples collected from firms using ERP over two years. The limitations for search and integration service, significantly affect user dissatisfaction with the ERP. The second purpose of this study is to discuss the Semantic Web as an alternative overcoming the limitations and to provide guidelines for adoption of the Semantic Web from the perspective of IT innovation. Case study as a qualitative approach is appropriate for achieving the second purpose of this study because of early introduction stage of the Semantic Web. Researcher identified three factors affecting adoption of the Semantic Web. The first factor is demand pull including requirements for solving search and integration problems of the existing systems and for creating new services. Secondly, environmental conduciveness, potential business value, government sponsorship programs, and active roles of suppliers are affecting the adoption of the Semantic Web from the perspective of technology push. Finally, absorptive capability is an important role of the adoption. The absorptive capabilities include formal systems supporting or encouraging adoption of emerging technology, employees or team's competency analyzing technology characteristics, their passion or willingness to adopt successfully, and CEO support or active participation.
