디지털 환경에서 캘리그래피의 디자인 표현 양식에 관한 연구

Human used language, the means for communication, and has developed the letters to make up for restrictions in time and space. Initial letters were basic instrument to simply convey meanings, but after several centuries passing it has come to evolve in a variety of forms. It has developed in field of typography that studies and develops letters' shaping character beyond concept of simply writing and reading, and further a new field called calligraphy has been emerged, which is possible to make unique expression transmitting author's thought or message in letters. In early stage, calligraphy was shown mainly in printed media and signs, but recently it is being applied to number of design fields such as movies, videos, environmental design, product design, clothing design. In this study, by analyzing calligraphy's applying style in digital design environment among many fields, its features have been looked into. The features in calligraphy's applying style in recent digital design environment has been developing in new and unique style transformed from traditional stroke of writing, and various attempts are being done in ways of expression and materials. And calligraphy, which is possible to make move and control by making features of digital environment alive, is sometimes being shown. But there are cases that legibleness is decreased and author's intention is not well delivered because too much of uniqueness and technique is emphasized, and the message of its contents wasn't well expressed as it was recklessly used by taking advantage of fashion. Therefore, on the basis of features for calligraphy's expression style in digital design environment as this study researched, in the future I plan to establish guideline for calligraphy's applying method and scope by surveying consumers' preferences toward calligraphy in each field.
