금속가구의 특성과 디자인 변천에 관한연구

The metal was used as a material of the furniture because of development of material engineering to be thought to be a material expressing new , solid and high-tech sense. Early 20th century, metallic furniture's structure and styles showed innovation to expand today's furniture design area greatly. As cognition on recent price hike of raw materials as well as environment problems has been recently expanded in the world, the metal is much likely to be used as environment-friendly and recycling material. This study investigated representative metallic furniture from early 20th century to latter half of the 20th century, in particular, not only characteristics and structure of the chair in accordance with changes of the material but also design expressions. The radical chairs having cantilever structure made of steel pipes created modern space, and the aluminium material could produce light-weighted furniture. And, in the latter half of 1950's, the wire was used to make comfortable and free furniture being suitable for human body. The analysis on design characteristics of each material of metallic furniture could expand scope of understanding on metallic furniture to reinforce specialty of metallic furniture and to supply basic material for the use of metal at development of the furniture.
