초록
This study began with the assumption that for creativity a designer must be able to combine the functions and capacities of both right and left hemispheres. Not all designers have this integrative ability, of course. They have their own ways of solving problems based on their experiences or ideas. To prove what the balanced use of one’s brain will result in, this study experimented with 16 early year students by motivating and guiding them to use the left hemisphere, the right hemisphere and both hemispheres respectively in creating designs and sought to find out the correlation between the students’ problem-solving patterns and the use of their brain hemispheres. As a result there are four types of groups: 1. those who have the visual inclination and integrative ability 2. those who have the visual inclination and do not have integrative ability 3. those who own the linguistic tendency and integrative ability 4. those who own the linguistic tendency and do not have integrative ability. Based on the evaluation by 3 experts of the findings of the experiment, the presentations by the subjects, and the interviews performed randomly during the experiment period, the study reached a conclusion: those who had the inclination identical with the pattern of their using the brain hemispheres were superior in solving problems. Through these experiments, also, the hypothesis about the balanced use of one’s brain hemispheres for creative works has proved valid. The implication of this study suggests applying the findings in developing methods that can be adopted in various classroom settings.
