철릭의 디자인 현대화에 관한 연구

This study has been projected to select ‘Cheolik’, one of the traditional costumes, study it intensively and try to utilize its design elements in modern costumes. ‘Cheolik’, the basic element of Korean traditional costumes, had completed the costume regulations of illustrious official which is one of traditional gown systems that shows most clearly the courtesy and manners of wearer. The reason of choosing ‘Cheolik’ is that ‘Cheolik’ has a great worthy of utilization in modern costume that reveals in its practical formats for wearer to put on and take off, which contribute on how many pleats it has and where pleats are, form and decoration of sleeves. The goal of this study is that I analyze and research ‘Cheolik’ and well‐utilize its design elements so that I could propose ‘Cheolik Designs’ which are transformed into a variety of forms suitable for sensibility of modern fashion. To do this, I investigated ‘Choelik’ item to produce it in real size and I have made four works which was designed by modernizing ‘Cheolik’ elements. The four key elements of ‘Cheolik Designs’ are lapels, proportion between upper and lower parts, pleats and detachable sleeves. The modern designs made on basis of the four elements are : - a court as a motive for the collars of Cheolik - a one‐piece dress as a motive for proportion between upper and lower parts of Cheolik - a sleeveless blouse and slacks as a motive for the pleats of Cheolik - a top and slacks as a motive for the detachable sleeves of Cheolik With retranslating the design elements of ‘Cheolik’ into modern style, this study showed possibilities of design utilization of other traditional costumes made efforts to take over traditional costumes and try to present a harmony with modern fashion. These efforts for study of analysis and research on the design elements of traditional costumes will develop the excellency of traditional costumes and make a contribution toward spreading the beauty of Korean traditional costumes on the world of 'Fashion'.
