공생의 법, 사랑의 생태학 ― 조세희의 『난장이가 쏘아올린 작은 공』연구

The individual and social trauma has had various causes and symptoms with the changes of the times. The current age's angst cannot be less painful than the seventy's which is the theme of Cho Se-hee's novels. The most serious crisis coming within the revelatory vision in our times is the ecological catastrophe brought by the environmental pollution, war, and dissolution of community, etc. The problems of the sickening ecosystem and nature have been the crucial theme of social and political interest, ethical proposition, and cultural sensibility. The primary cause of chaos and anxiety in "Dwarf series" is the rupture between being and world which is home of men and everything. The thinking that a system consisted of human and nature, a universe is an organic whole and share one life together constructs the fundamental of ecological thoughts. In A Small Ball a Dwarf Fired, human beings are described to conflict not only with other human beings, and nature, but also with their inside, or their own selves. Therefore, in the dismal vision of the world in which the golden rule for peaceful coexistence has been broken, human beings and other creatures have been suffering from affliction anxious feeling. The primary sources of anxiety in this work are the 'body', precisely speaking, the feeling of helplessness from deformed body and the 'poverty' in the grim realities of life. According to Freudian theory, the feeling of helplessness caused by anxiety is originated from original experience of separation from mother's body, which inscribes the memory of deficiency or absence of 'love' in one's mind. On the other hand, the sentiments embodied in A Small Ball a Dwarf Fired, represent not only the weak losing their psychological basis but also the universal feeling of loss possessed by subjects who reiterate traumatic experience, forgetting the principle of love. The tragic view of men, society and world in this work is mirroring the violence due to the sudden influx industrialization and urbanization and the destruction of ecosystem which connects human beings and nature into 'one life'. But Cho Se-hee presents the hopeful outlook and imagines the world 'the law of love' governs and in which everyone is in communion with one another without distinction of inside from outside. The desire of restoring the law of love and the community as a minimum unit of life 'a dwarf fired' is symbolized by the legislative proposal of love, 'dynamis' which will be realized into the actual performance.
