초록
This paper empirically investigates the effects and success factors of the Korean government’s Design Development Assistance Program(DDAP) in order to develop recommendations for more effective government assistance programs. Based on data collected by the Korea Institute of Design Promotion during January and February 2008, a multiple regression analysis has been run on the 923 companies that received government subsidies from DDAP between 2005 and 2007. The empirical evidence points to the following findings: First, companies with a short history show better performance on design. This reflects the fact that small and medium-sized enterprises(SMEs) invest less than large enterprises in design, thus the government subsidy has greater impact. Second, companies with a longer history and larger size show better performance on economic achievements as a result of the government subsidies. It can be concluded that support for small businesses has only temporary effects, and the effects do not result in improved economic performance.
