The Curriculum and the Way of Civil Law Education in JNU Law School

The education goal of CNU law school lies in bring up the pioneering world-class lawyer. The education purpose of civil law which deals with the legal cases between individuals should be to building the basic legal knowledge and to constructing the understanding the civil code. There are three civil law subjects in JNU law school essential subjects. That is, the foundation of the civil law, property, contract. Besides, there are three basic civil law subjects, that is, obligation, tort, family law. JNU law school has the advanced subjects and ultramodern subjects and synthesis subjects and practical affairs subjects related civil law. It has many variety of the advanced and ultramodern ones. It is said that the curriculum is not functional one, but it is based on Pandekten system. The previous lecture method is still effective under the Pandekten system though new system asks for the new teaching method. JNU law school recommends the professor to use Socratic method in essential and basic subject. It also persuades the professor to practice the appropriate teaching method according the subjects, for example, Case Method, Problem Solving Method, Legal Clinic, e-Learning, Role Play, Team Teaching. For the teaching materials or text, the professors have a plan to restrain the excessive theory centered text, to reduce its volume and to aim at the theme centered, case centered texts. Text books will contain basic concept, questions, indicating the cases, outline of the part, introducing the leading cases(precedents). JNU curriculum and the way of education will be estimated through feedback which students offers about teaching method and contents.
