A Study on the Family-narrative Feature in the Movies : Focusing on Aspects of Making Series with ‘the Law of Father’ and ‘the Death of Young Child’ since 2000 Korean Movies

The purpose of this essay is to observe the new aspects of 2000's Korean familism-films. The characteristics of new aspects are related to ‘the death of a young child’ and ‘the law of father’. The films attempt to fill ‘father's absence’ with new ‘law of father’. [A Good Law's Wife](2003) directed by Lim Sang-soo is the declaration which deprives father's position. Because this father caused to kill his young child. This film is the text that becomes the premise following films. [The Host](2006) directed by Bong Jun-ho express anxiety of father' status. Despite protect his family by regained the strength, his power is too weak in qualified national power hierarchy. [Antarctic Journal](2005) directed by Lim Pil-seong materialize the shape of father who is to justify his own fault. His attempt to justify fails. Because his tries repeats the result of child sacrifices. His recognition without reflective thinking leads to destruction of the family. 『Secret Sunshine』(2007) directed by Lee Chang-dong shows the father's desire to replace a manifestation of the transition. To fill the absence of the father with transcendental signifiant, to expose depressed realty of subject suppressed by signifiant. Theses movies have antinomy attitude about ‘the law of father’. These narratives are blamed for the death of child by father, On the other hand still want to admit the law of father. Consequently the narratives of these films express forms of ‘anxiety’, ‘incapacity’ and ‘dissatisfaction’.
