Korean appraisal companies have attempted to provide generally various real estate services such as property management service, facility management, and real estate brokerage and consulting service since twentieth century. So far, many appraisal companies do not provide comprehensive real estate services. This study aims to investigate the way how an appraisal company develops into a general real estate company which provides general real estate services by reviewing the track of developments of general real estate service companies of foreign countries. First, I review basic theories and preceding researches on the real estate service industry and general real estate service company. Second, I investigate the development process of several general real estate service companies such as Cushman & Wakefield Inc., Jones Lang Lasalle, and Müller International Immobilien GmbH. And I derive implications for Korean appraisal companies to develop into global general real estate service companies. Finally, I suggest ways how an appraisal company develops into a global general real estate service company. And I suggest a development plan which includes the management diversification and geographic expansion of appraisal companies.
