메를로 퐁티의 ‘체험된 몸’과 ‘살’에 대한 그로츠(E. Grosz)의 페미스트적 독해

엘리자베스 그로츠는 몸/마음, 남성/여성 등의 서구 사유의 뿌리 깊은 이원론적 대립을 극복하기 위해서 메를로 퐁티의 신체의 현상학과 살의 존재론에 관심을 갖는다. 그로츠는 메를로 퐁티의 『지각의 현상학』에 나타난 몸-주체인 ‘체험된 몸’을 분석하는데, 이 체험된 몸’은 ‘육화된 것으로서의 의식’과 ‘세계를-향한-존재’로 특징지을 수 있다. 그러나 그로츠는 섹슈얼리티에 대한 메를로 퐁티의 논의가 근본적으로 성차와 성적 특수성을 이해하는 데 적합하지 못하다고 비판한다. 그 다음 그로츠는 후기 메를로 퐁티의 『보이는 것과 보이지 않는 것』에서 ‘자기 스스로를 감싸 안는 살’ 안에서 모든 현상들이 출현하고, 변별화되어 나오는 ‘차이의 존재론’이 전개하는 역동적 운동에 주목한다. 그러나 메를로 퐁티의 ‘체험된 몸’과 ‘살’에 대한 그로츠의 독해는 지나치게 몸과 마음의 이원론의 문제틀 안에서만 이루어지는 문제점을 지니고 있다. 그래서 ‘체험된 몸’을 현상학적 맥락 안에서 신체적 지향성으로 이해하지 못하고, ‘살’을 존재론적 맥락 안에서 위치시키지 못한 결과, 그로츠 자신이 제시한 존재론적 기획마저 그 실현이 불투명하게 되었다.
Abstract
Elisabeth Grosz is interested in Maurice Merleau-Ponty's phenomenology of the body and his ontology of the flesh in order to overcome the binary opposition between mind and body and between men and women etc. especially in the western thinking. So Grosz analyze 'the lived body' in Merleau-Ponty's The Phenomenology of Perception, According to her, this concept is characterized by the consciousness as it is incarnated and by 'being-to-the-world'. But she criticize that it is essentially inadequate for understanding of the sexual difference and sexual specificity. Then she focuses on The Visible and the Invisible, in other words, on the 'ontology of the difference' in the dynamic movement of the self-enfolding flesh from which every phenomena are differenciated and emerge. It seems that Grosz's feminist reading of 'the lived body' and of 'the flesh' in Merleau-Ponty's philosophy is exclusively carried out in the problematic of the mind-body dualism. In doing so, Grosz can't regard 'the lived body' as corporeal intentionality in the phenomenological sense and she can't grasp the flesh in the ontological context to contribute to the feminism. As a result, she put her own ontological project in danger.
