A Study on Social Service Design for the Elderly in the UK

The improvement of medical technology has influenced to be better health status of individual which effect to longer and healthy life thus older people, over 65years old, population has grown radically also it has been a biggest issues to solve recently. This case has been issued to Inclusive Design and many other concepts to solve the problems with how older people are interacting product easily. However, many older people are still facing a problem of loneliness and socially excluding from society. This research will find the causes of the loneliness and social isolation of elderly; moreover, this will be focused on fundamental solutions through the participation in society. Finding problems was conducted with some statistics about elderly population and applying STP model then the methods for solution were found by case study and the using of 4P model. The problems which are related with old people have not been solved by the conventional policies, such as loneliness, social isolation and social inequalities, so this study suggests that re-giving the social role as a fundamental solution to older people by using the emotional aspect of design management. As a way of fundamental solution, this paper suggests that give the chance of social participation to elderly people as teachers of social education system.
