청지기 관점에서 본 엔론사와 SK글로벌사의 분식회계 사례 비교 분석

초록
본 논문은 미국과 한국의 대표적인 분식회계인 엔론사와 SK글로벌사의 사례들을 종합적으로 분식의 발생과정, 원인, 파장과 조치를 비교 분석하고, 이를 통해 성경의 청지기정신에서 이해관계자들의 비도덕적 행위에 대한 해결책을 모색하고자 하였다. 성경에서는 달란트의 비유를 통해 우리를 하나님의 청지기, 대리자로 나타내고 있는데, 청지기정신은 현대 사회의 경영자 등 기업관계자의 역할에 중요한 시사점을 제공하고 있다. 분식회계에 대한 원인을 살펴본 결과 무리한 확장을 통한 투자실패, 경영자의 도덕적 해이와 외부감사인 및 투자은행 등 기업관계자들의 불성실함에 있음을 알 수 있었다. 분식에 대한 예방책으로서 각자는 청지기정신에 입각하여 맡은 역할을 충실히 수행하는 것이 근본적인 해결책이며, 이에 따라 기업관계자들의 역할교육과 윤리교육의 필요성을 제기하였다. 이와 함께 분식회계와 같은 경제사범에 대한 처벌 수위를 높여 경고적 예방책을 강구하는 것도 필요할 것이다. 본 연구는 성경의 원리를 경제 문제에 적용하여 가치론적인 시사점을 제공하였다는 데에 그 의의를 둘 수 있을 것이다.
Abstract
This study compares the causes of and enforcements to accounting frauds between Korea and the U.S. and offers several proposals to prevent accounting fraud in the perspective of stewardship in the Bible. Bible says that God is creator, sustainer and owner of the universe, while man is a steward who is given dominion over the creatures to care for them. Each person, therefore, is accountable to God for his stewardship. The stewardship suggests implications to the role of managers in modern companies. Accounting frauds have been caused by the losses from over investments and moral hazard of managers and bankers. The recognition of responsibility of each manager is a solution to the accounting fraud, which suggests the need of the education on the work ethic in terms of stewardship. Hard enforcement to the accounting fraud may be helpful to prevent fraud.
