초록

The purpose of this study was to explore the effect of anger, forgiveness and conflict coping strategies according to religiosity on divorce intention of Christians who were considering divorce. Three research questions were considered. First, in what ways does a religious orientation affect the anger, forgiveness and conflict coping strategies? Second, in what ways do anger, forgiveness and conflict coping strategies according to religiosity affect divorce intention? Third, will the religiosity have an influence on divorce intention when the anger, forgiveness and conflict coping strategies act as mediator? The study sample consisted of 288 Christians. The measurements for this study were the Intrinsic-Extrinsic Orientation Scale(Allport & Ross, 1967), State Anger Scale(Spielberger, 1983), Conflict Coping Strategy Scale(McCubin et al., 1982), Forgiveness Scale(Enright et al., 1992) and Divorce Intention Scale(Kyung Seong Lee, 1998). Statistical analysis based on the structural equation modeling. The results of this study were as follows. First, the extrinsic religiosity affects anger, forgiveness and conflict coping strategies. The extrinsic religiosity affects anger in a positive way and the forgiveness in a negative way. However, the intrinsic religiosity does not affect the anger and forgiveness. Second, anger and forgiveness according to religiosity affect the divorce intention in a negative way. On the contrary, the conflict coping strategies do not affect divorce intention. Third, the extrinsic religiosity affects the divorce intention when anger and forgiveness act as mediator. However, the conflict coping strategies do not act as mediator. These results will be useful for counseling and developing programs to help Christians who are considering divorce.
