시뮬라시옹 사회의 그늘 - 화폐, 파생금융상품, 그리고 글로벌 금융위기-

지난 2008년 글로벌 금융위기로 인한 세계적인 경제 침체는 신자유주의에 대 한 회의, 최신 금융시스템에 대한 불신, 각국 중앙은행의 역할에 대한 새로운 주 문을 쏟아 내고 있다. 물론 수많은 경제학자들과 경제정책 담당자, 금융자본 전문 가들의 논쟁에 의해 새로운 질서와 제도가 만들어지겠지만, 이번 경제위기는 17세 기 네덜란드 튤립시장의 붕괴나 1930년대의 세계 대공황과는 다른 뿌리를 가진 사 태라는데 주목하고자 한다. 최근 글로벌 금융위기의 근원이 파생 금융상품의 확대 에 의한 것이며, 그것은 보드리야르가 지적한 세 번째 시뮬라크르의 전형적 모습 을 보여 주었다. 그러므로 본 논문에서는 우선 시뮬라크르의 진화라는 관점에서 화폐의 변화에 대하여 논의해 보고, 세 번째 계열의 시뮬라크르에 의해 나타나게 되는, 보드리야르가 제기한 시뮬라시옹 사회의 모습을 살펴보고자 한다. 그리고 불 태환지폐와 전자통신기기의 결합에 의해 세 번째 계열의 시뮬라크르의 전형인 파 생 금융상품의 탐욕적 생산에 의해 발생된 이번 금융위기의 과정을 살펴보게 될 것이다. 물론 이 논문은 경제적인 이론이나 정책에 대한 비판보다는 좀 더 근원적 인 우리 사회의 작동 매카니즘을 분석해 보고, 그것에 대한 반성의 기회로 삼자는 데 목적이 있다고 하겠다.
Abstract
The global financial crisis of 2008 revealed structural and innate problems with the system of world economy, and made the ruling ideology of neo-liberalism skeptical by leading to the collapse of major businesses, the significant decrease of consumer wealth, the fall of investor confidence, and the damage of monetary institutions all over the world. And it also stimulated to find out alternates or new models for understanding those substantial problems. There are some differences between the financial crisis of 2008 and the Dutch tulip market collapse of 1637, or the Great Depression of 1930 in terms of its causes and characteristics. Using the concept of 'simulacre' formulated by Baudrillard, this essay analyzed both the evolutionary process of money and the global financial crisis. As a consequence, it shows that our contemporary daily world already has some features of 'simulation society,' and that the financial crisis was generated by the combination of unconvertible money and electronic devices, as a typical model of the third simulacre.
