Content-Appropriate Media Applied to Information Design: Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater

Content-Appropriate Media Applied to Information Design: Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater

22권 6호, 5~10쪽

초록

This paper demonstrates the importance of content - appropriate media by applying the content of Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater to information design for three different media. Based on the research on focused information of the content and the media qualities appropriate for the information, three media have been selected. Designs for each medium have gone through a 5-step design process prior to development of design prototypes. The three content-appropriate media are: 1) a leaflet for promotion; 2) a short movie as an example demonstrating emotional effect; and 3) a kiosk to demonstrate an educational purpose. The design process includes 5 stages: 1) media research, 2) content planning, 3) information structure and navigation, 4) visual execution, and 5) usage scenario suggestion. The visual concept unifying the three designs is their emphasis on horizontality, a characteristic often found in Frank Lloyd Wright's 'Prairie Style'. The appropriateness of media is determined based on the purpose of the content to be delivered; content-appropriate media should maximize both communicative function and effective usage.
