아시아 국가들의 국기 디자인 특성에 관한 연구
The Design Characteristics of National Flags in Asian Countries

본 연구는 국가 상징물의 하나로 가장 효율적으로 활용되는 국기의 디자인 특성을 추출하기 위하여 아시아의 주권국 49개국을 대상으로 국기의 형태와 색채를 분석하였다. 국기의 형태 분석에서는 세로변과 가로변의 비율, 사용된 문양의 종류와 사용색, 사용색과 배경의 배색 특성, 또한 국기 문양의 주요 변수인 국장과의 상관관계를 중심으로 분석하였다. 국기의 색채 분석에서는 사용색을 색채별, 그리고 면적별 분포를 통해 살펴보았고, 전체 사용색의 배색 특성을 파악하였다 분석결과 아시아 국기의 비율은 7종류로 다양하였으며, 가로와 세로의 비율 3:2가 46.9%로 가장 많이 사용되었다. 국기의 문양으로 사용된 형상은 23종이었으며 문양의 형상은 태양, 달, 별과 같은 천상문이 48.7%로 문양 전체의 절반을 차지하였다. 문양으로 사용된 색의 빈도순은 W>Y>R>G>PB이었다. 문양의 배경과의 배색은 2색 배색이 대부분으로 R-W>G-W>R-Y>PB-W 순서로 많이 사용된 것으로 나타났다. 국기와 국장과의 관계는 국기에 국장의 적용 정도를 고려하여 관련이 있는 국기가 59.2%로 국기 문양의 연구에서 국장은 분석의 필수 요소임을 알 수 있었다 아시아 국기의 사용색은 유채색 R, YR, Y, G, B, PB, RP, Br의 8색과 무채색 W, S의 2색으로 사용색의 빈도만으로는 W>R>G>B>Y>S 순으로 나타났다. 그러나 면적비율에서는 빨강이 35.8%, 하양 24.2%로 큰 차이를 보여 빨강이 배경색으로 넓은 면적에 사용되었음을 시사하였다. 빨강과 하양은 아시아 국기 사용색의 가장 주요한 색채로 나타났다. 나아가 사용색의 면적비율은 아시아 국기의 색채 이미지를 보여주었다. 배색은 2색에서 4색까지 매우 제한된 색이 사용되었으며, 2색 배색은 6종류, 3색 배색은 5종류, 4색 배색은 8종류가 나타났고, 2색 배색의 대표적인 배색은 R-W, 3색 배색은 R-B-W, 4색 배색은 R-G-W-S이었다. 이들의 공통 색채는 R-W로 3색 배색에서는 파랑이, 4색 배색에서는 녹색과 검정이 추가되었다. 특히 검정은 4색 배색의 주요 인자로 나타났다. 또한 동일한 배색유형이라 할지라도 다른 면적비율을 가지고 있음을 제시하였다
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to draw out design characteristics of national flags, which are the most useful symbols for national image, in Asian countries and so those of 49 countries were selected. To find out the features of form, the following items were carefully examined; the ratios of rectangular shape, the kinds and the colors of figures, color combinations of figures and their grounds, and at last correlation with national emblem. The results were outlined briefly as follows: 7 different ratios of rectangular shape were used and main ratio among them was 3(horizontal):2(vertical), 46.9%. And 23 kinds of figure were found and noticed figures were crescent, star, sun and moon in heaven. The colors of figures were W > Y > R > G > PB. Color combinations of figures with their grounds were in order of R-W > G-W > R-Y> PB-W. National emblem had very close relation to its national flag as a kind of national symbols, shown in 29 countries, 59.2%. And to find out the features of color, the following items were also examined; the used colors and their function, the ratios by area of used colors, color combinations of total colors and their ratios for Asian continent or for 5 districts of Asia. The results were outlined briefly as follows: R, YR, Y, G, B, PB, RP, Br were used as chromatic colors and as achromatic colors were W and S(black). While R and W were used as main colors, RP and Br were used as very a few colors. Especially red was used as ground color and so the area portion of red was much higher than that of white. The area portion of used colors represented the color image of all national flags in Asia. The colors for combinations were selected from two to four colors. 6 two-color, 5 three-color, 8 four-color combinations were found. Main combinations were R-W, R-B-W and R-G-W-S, but the same combinations had different ratios of area.
