A Study on Design Thinking for Being a Business-Oriented Designer

Design thinking operates in whole design processes, such as definition, research, ideation, prototyping, selection, implementation, and learning phases to tackle confronted problems. Design thinkers should see the world with multiple perspectives and consider customers, comrades, competitors, budget, and environment. However, designers generally tend to just focus on building their own design artifacts. Recently, the scope of design utilization has expanded because the concept of design has been widely applied to various fields in our modern society. Designers should have business-mind and do innovative change in order to meet the demands of the times by understanding the communication of comrades, user interface, and the culture of a company. In this paper, the five rules for being a business-oriented designer are proposed. These rules make designers identify the demands of clients and achieve the proper cooperation with co-workers. And they should also help overcome the difficult task occurred during project period by assimilating designers with the culture of a company. Embedding design thinking into business enables innovative changes and can be a valuable asset for accomplishing the goals of a company.
