중세 갑옷 디자인의 구조분석

초록
본 연구에서는 중세의 갑옷이 현대의 패션 디자인, 영화와 무대의상, 애니메이션 및 게임 캐릭터 등에서 응용되는 현황을 조사하고 관련 산업의 디자인 창작에 도움이 되고자 갑옷 구조를 분석하였다. 1. 먼저 중세 서양 갑옷의 응용 현황을 살펴본다. 갑옷의 견고한 형태와 금속성 재질, 면갑이 달린 헬멧은 심리적인 강한 힘을 얻고자 하는 페티스트(fetishist)들에게 매력적인 패션의 소재가 되었으며, 급진적인 패션 디자이너들은 갑옷의 형태를 차용한 페티쉬 패션과 예술의상을 발표하였다. 영화나 무대 예술에서의 갑옷은 배우들의 액션 연기와 세련된 동작을 위해 가볍고 디자인성이 부각된 것이 많았다. 세련된 옷차림, 부와 명예, 로맨스 등을 갖춘 이상화된 중세 기사들의 캐릭터는 애니메이션이나 게임 등의 매력적인 소재로 이용되고 있다. 2. 다음으로 중세 서양 갑옷의 종류와 구조를 살펴본다. 14세기까지는 사슬 갑옷이 착용되었으며 그 이후에는 보호기능이 강력한 판금 갑옷이 주로 착용되었다. 13세기에는 토너먼트(tournament)와 쥬스트(joust)와 같은 마상시합을 위한 보강보호용구, 안전용품들이 등장하였다. 14세 이후 보병결투경기(foot combat)가 생겨나면서 특별한 경기용 헬멧이나 갑옷 등이 개발되었다. 16세기에는 갑옷표면에 에칭이나 엠보싱 효과를 내거나 금색칠을 하여 장식하였다.
Abstract
This purpose of this study is to assist various fields of creative design works of fashion design, theatre and film costume, animation and game characters. The main body armor worn by early knights was made of mail, which consisted of many small, linked iron rings. In the 14th century knights increasingly added steel plates, made of pieces of riveted iron. By the 15th century, some knight wore full suits of plate armor. During the 13th century special armor was developed for jousting and tournaments to increase protection such as a reinforcements to additional pieces to allow them to be made up in various ways. By the 14th century, foot combats was popular. The supplies for foot combat were developed, includung closed helmets or armets as special types of armor. 16th century designs were often etched into the metal with acid and gold plating or gilding was sometimes used to embellish border or bands of decoration.
