사건으로서의 디자인; 가에타노 페세의 작품세계

초록
본 논문은 가에타노 페세(Gaetano Pesce)의 작품에 대한 연구이다. 기존의 디자인 작품 연구 방식에서 탈피하여 철학적 개념을 바탕으로 그의 작품에 대한 해석을 시도하였다. 그의 작품들을 재현의 파괴를 통한 들뢰즈의 사건 개념으로서의 디자인이라고 규정했다. 해석에 앞서 본 연구에서의 철학적 용어의 한정된 사용을 위해 서구 미학에서의 주요한 주제인 재현, 들뢰즈의 사건 개념, 가스통 바슐라르의 물질적 상상력에 대한 이해를 제시하였다. 이후 페세의 작품을 네 가지 범주로 나누어 이들 범주의 어법 속에서 어떻게 재현이 파기되고 사건이 발생하는 디자인으로 그 특성이 형성되는지를 살펴보았다. 작품 분류는 익숙한 것들의 낯선 결합, 질료의 전면화, 우연성과 실수, 착색을 거부하는 염색적 색채의 사용으로 범주화되었다. 본 연구의 의미는 디자인 작품에 철학적 사유의 개념을 적용하여 해석을 시도했다는 점, 시각의 우위성만을 주장하며 변화해 온 근대적 사유에서 벗어나 재현에 대한 거부, 물질성에 천착한 페세의 작품 해석을 통해 새로운 상상력의 단초를 제공했다는데 있다.
Abstract
This writing researched the works of Gaetano Pesce. His works were named as 'Reject of the representation; as arrival of event.' Some philosophical concepts were mentioned first to analysis his work, such as the concept of representation, Gillesl Deleuze's arrival of event and Gaston Bachelard's imagination on materials. This concepts were the basic perspective on analysing Pesce's works. His works were categorized followed by four distinguishable characters. They were the uncanny combination of the familiar things, bringing the materiality to the fore, grasping the accident and mistake and using of dying color. His characteristic aspects were explained by analysing each individual work, then connected with the previous perspective. This research signifies two meanings. One is that it tells about the different imagination about design focused on materiality in the age of visual imagination. The other is that this suggests a philosophical approach in research on a certain designer's works.
