초록
This article can be summarized as follows. Christian members of the Constituent Assembly(CMCA), relatively more than non-christian members, assumed the important positions such as chairman and vice chairman of the Assembly and constitution drafting committees, which could influence the structure of discussion. On the contrary, their substantial activities were relatively less seen, except for in discussion of religion, marriage & family, and education clause. Regarding religion clause, CMCA made concentrated efforts to revise the separation of the state and religion on the original draft. They thought that the state should protect and encourage religion. However, their revised bill was voted down because of the animosity of non-christian members. CMCA also tried to insert marriage & family clause. At first stage, interests in this clause was likewise limited mainly to CMCA, but with less animosity of non-christian members. In result, the revised bill could nearly pass, thanks to the repetitive urges of leading members in the Assembly like the chairman and sincere christian, Seung-Man Rhee. CMCA's another effort was concentrated on extending the period of the compulsory education which was fixed to elementary school on the original draft. CMCA's revised bill on this issue received the support of the absolute majority of the members of the Assembly, and easily passed. There were, of course, other issues CMCA concerned about. However, they didn't seem to be connected with the identity of christians. CMCA,rather, took various positions on those issues according to their respective political and personal background.
