경제학적 관점에서 본 성서 속의 달란트 비유

초록
예수께서 말씀하신 달란트 비유의 원래적 의미는 자신의 재림 시 성도가 취할 책무에 대한 것이었지만, 본 연구는 성서에 나오는 달란트 비유를 하나의 기업경영사례로 보고 경제학적 관점에서 토의하고 시사점을 얻는다. 먼저 달란트 비유에서 소유와 경영이 명확히 분리되어 있다는 점에 착안하여, 정보의 비대칭성으로 인해 발생하는 주인-대리인 문제를 검토한다. 또한 주인으로부터 소유를 받은 종들을 기업가로 보고, 기업가정신 이론에 비추어 이들의 기업가 유형을 토의한다. 마지막으로 종들이 실현한 이윤의 본질에 대하여 살펴본다. 연구결과, 기독교 신앙의 측면에서는 성도는 위험감수자, 그리고 조정자로서 주님이 원하는 수준의 성과를 실현해야 한다는 것을 알 수 있다. 기업경영 측면에서는 주인-대리인 문제를 해결하는 적절한 인센티브제도의 필요성, 기업가로서의 바람직한 역할 정립, 주주·전문경영인·종업원 간의 의사소통, 기회비용 개념에 입각한 경영활동의 성과 산정 등 다양한 측면에서 교훈을 얻을 수 있다.
Abstract
This paper explores the parable of the talents in Matthew from a viewpoint of economics, considering it as a case of corporate management, even though original meaning of the scripture is related to the responsibility christians should take before the Second Advent comes. The principal-agent problem arising out of asymmetrical information is discussed, assuming that ownership and management is explicitly separated in the parable. Types of entrepreneur reflected in the behaviors of each servants are examined based on the entrepreneurship in economic theory. Also, the fundamental trait of profit the servants brought about is discussed. From the perspective of christian faith, it is suggested that the christians accomplish the level of work God asks for by being both risk-taker and coordinator. From the corporate management perspective, we can have some significant lessons, including necessity to set up proper incentive system that solves principal-agent problem, establishment of advisable role as an entrepreneur, appropriate communication among share-holders, professional managers and employees, and assessment of management outcome based on the concept of opportunity cost.
