Engineer's Social Responsibility on Engineering Ethics ―real lecture method

There are big and small accidents happening in our living environment. The greater part of them are engineering accidents. These related direct-indirectly to engineer to practice engineering and technology. The engineering accidents bring about extraordinary tragedy in society. There can not ask the responsibility to the general public in this situation. Instead an engineer must respond in the accidents in the science and technology society of the day age, because the engineer control of a science and technology on this account. For the reason that an engineer's action have social-ethical character, most of Engineering Colleges reflect Engineering Ethics in curriculums of engineering education lately. Engingeering Ethics must deal with ethical controversial point of a problem to happen in the scene of engineering, and have students cognize a social influence of engineering practice, and have students cognize a morality demanded on engineering action to prevent engineering accidents from happening. Most of Engineering Ethics lectures are carried out a theory lecture centering around concepts. But Engineering Ethics must be lectured on students theory lecture in parallel with business ability to practice real social responsibility. Accreditation Board for Engineering Education of Korea(ABEEK) pursuit business ability, and then Engineering Ethics must treat abundant cases with concepts to make students previously experience a problem happening in the scene of engineering and to get ready for future engineer, and that Engineering Associations emphasis engineer's social responsibility in Code of Ethics for engineers. But the Code of Ethics for engineers is an inclusive abstract regulation. Therefore a lecturer deal with concrete cases―example cases: 1. eradicator case; producer′s duty and public′s safety, 2. Challenger′s explosion case; troble between engineer and employer, 3. parkville case; the inner indictment and integrity, 4. merely descriptive problem?; environment problem and inegrity, 5. airbag; example role model― the students debate diversely on ethical controversial point of cases, that the students make up ability to practice social responsibility. This paper will indicate an importance of lecture method centering around cases.
