21세기 대학의 사회적 책임에 대한 고찰- 사회적 연대의 관점에서

What roles do universities in the 21st century should play for society which is in rapid changes and faces unprecedented risks? Based on university missions, this study seeks for substantial understanding of social responsibility of universities in the 21st century by scrutinizing its conceptual development and current discourses on socially engaged universities. To understand true essence of social responsibility of the 21st century's universities, the author raises two research questions: 1) how have university missions been conceptually developed in our society and what is the implication for social responsibility of universities? and 2) from the social engagement perspective, what is the gist that relevant discourses have emphasized to define social responsibility of universities in the 21st century. The findings and implications that this study obtained would be useful for both universities and society as partners to consider at the same line how their relationship should be for mutual development and to attempt to define social responsibility of universities successfully responding to society's needs. Furthermore, this study could play a role of foundation to map out the future discourse a way in which universities in the 21st century become public good for public good for our society.
