중력모형을 활용한 ASEAN-EU 무역의 실증분석

초록
ASEAN-EU간 FTA 논의가 2010년 초 EU-싱가포르 FTA 협상을 신호로 재가동될 것으로 전망되는 가운데, 본고에서는 EU-ASEAN간의 무역에 미친 요인과 그 영향력을 고찰해 보고 있다. 즉, 환율변동성을 변수에 포함시켜 유로화 출범과 실물유로화 통용, 그리고 EU경제통합의 확대가 ASEAN- EU무역에 어떠한 영향을 미쳤는지 중력모형을 사용하여 실증 분석하고 있다. 분석결과, 유로화의 출범과 실물유로화의 통용은 ASEAN-EU15국 무역을 확대시키는 것으로 나타났으며, 양국간의 환율변동성보다 대미달러 환율변동성이 ASEAN-EU15국 무역에 부정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 분석되었다. 그러나 ASEAN-EU25국 무역의 경우 분석결과의 유의도가 낮게 추정되어 유로화가 무역에 미치는 영향을 명료하게 결론짓지 못하였다. 향후 ASEAN-EU간 혹은 양지역 쌍무간 FTA의 체결은 ASEAN-EU간의 무역을 크게 확대시킬 것으로 전망되고 있는 가운데, ASEAN으로서는 동유럽시장 공략과 무역거래시 유로화에 대한 의존율을 높임으로써 환리스크를 최소화하는 환율정책을 추진해야 할 것으로 보인다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of exchange rate volatility between ASEAN and EU's countries including the 10 new member countries, which joined EU in 2004 and to analyse the effects of the European economic and monetary integration on the trade between ASEAN and EU. For empirical analysis is used a gravity model concerning the exchange rate volatility on the bilateral trade. By the empirical tests, using annual data for the period from 1990 to 2006, it is detected that the exchange rate volatility made a significant negative impact on the ASEAN-EU trade. The departure of EURO and the circulation of the actual EURO have positive impacts on the trade between ASEAN and 15 states of EU, but not so positive on the trade between ASEAN and 25 EU-members. The exchange rate volatility of ASEAN's countries is influenced more negatively on the trade between ASEAN and 25 EU's states than the exchange rate volatility of 25 EU's states. Therefore, the ASEAN should use strategically a management policy to control the exchange rate volatility in the short term for improvement of a export environment and a exchange policy to minimize the exchange risks through using the EURO as a payment instrument for international trade.
