본 연구는 2001년 11월부터 2007년 12월 까지를 표본 자료로 하여 국내 주식형 펀드에 한해, 포트폴리오의 월 자산내역을 확인하여 애널리스트의 투자의견변경에 대한 펀드매니저의 정보활용도(IAM)를 측정하고, 이를 활용한 운용전략시에 펀드관련 특성변수를 통제하고 우월한 성과가 발생할 수 있는지를 실증분석 하였다. 첫째, 고정효과모형을 이용한 패널 분석 결과에 의하면 Fama-French 모형의 알파, Carhart 모형의 알파, Ferson-Schadt 모형의 알파가 정보활용도(IAM)와 유의한 정의 관계를 갖고 있기 때문에, 수익성을 확인할 수 있었다. 둘째, 상향조정 투자의견과 하향 조정투자의견에 대한 펀드매니저의 차별화된 운용전략을 살펴보았을 때, 하향조정 투자의견에서 Fama-French 모형의 알파, Carhart 모형의 알파, Ferson-Schadt 모형의 알파가 정보활용도와 유의적인 정의 관계가 나타나 상향조정 투자의견보다는 하향조정투자의견이 정보의 질에 대한 신뢰성이 우월하였으며 하향조정 투자의견을 거래전략으로 활용하면 펀드매니저는 시장의 일시적 비효율성에 의한 초과수익률을 실현할 수 있었다.
Abstract
This study empirically examines whether there is relation between IAM(information availability of fund manager for analyst recommendation consensus) and fund performance in the Korea fund stock markets. We use three risk-adjusted alphas, Fama-French's three factor alpha, Carhart's four factor alpha, and Ferson-Schadt's alpha for the sample period of 11/2001-12/2007. The major empirical findings from this study can be summarized as follows. First, when control fund related variables, such as total net asset, age, turnover, newgrowth, number of portfolio holding, our findings provides evidence of positive and economically significant relationship between fund performance and IAM for the whole sample period. Second, for analyst's recommendation upgrade change, our finding is no evidence that performance of those can be attributed to IAM. Third, for analyst's recommendation downgrade change, such fund manager having superior information availability for analyst recommendation consensus outperform. Consequently, we confirm that downgrade change in analyst's recommendation consensus carry useful predictive information about fund fundamentals than upgrade change in analyst's recommendation consensus.
