감사인 교체와 초도감사 보수할인에 관한 연구

초록
본 연구는 재무상황이 좋지 않은 기업들이 저품질 감사인으로의 교체를 시도하는지, 그리고 고품질 감사인으로 교체를 하는 경우보다 저품질 감사인으로 교체한 경우 감사보수 할인이 이루어질 가능성이 더 높은 지를 분석한다. 또한 감사수입에 대한 의존도 및 비감사서비스 제공여부가 초도감사 보수할인에 영향을 주는지를 추가적으로 분석한다. 분석 결과, 저품질 감사인으로 교체한 기업들의 재무상황이 고품질 감사인으로 교체한 기업들에 비해 좋지 않은 것으로 나타났다. 재무상황이 좋지 않을수록 재무제표를 왜곡시킬 가능성이 높다는 점을 고려할 때 정보이용자 입장에서는 이처럼 재무상황이 불량한 기업들이 저품질 감사인으로 교체하는 것은 바람직하지 않다. 초도감사 보수할인과 관련된 분석에서는 저품질 감사인으로 교체한 경우 감사보수 할인이 이루어질 가능성이 상대적으로 높은 것으로 나타났다. 특히 고품질 감사인에서 저품질 감사인으로 교체를 하는 경우 표본의 50%이상이 감사보수를 할인하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 감사인의 총 수입 중 회계감사 수입이 차지하는 비중이 높을수록 초도감사 보수할인이 이루어질 가능성이 더 높은 것으로 밝혀졌으며, 비감사서비스 제공여부와 초도감사 보수할인 간에는 관련성이 없는 것으로 나타났다.
Abstract
This study investigate whether firms in financial distress try to switch to a lower quality auditor and initial－year audit fee discounts happen more frequently in the sample of switching to a lower quality auditor compared to switching to a higher quality auditor. This paper also examine the effect of the fee dependence to a specific client and non－audit service provision on the initial audit fee discount. The empirical result shows that firms who have bad financial conditions generally are more likely to switch to a lower quality auditor rather than to a higher quality one. We also find that initial engagement discounting is more likely in the case of switching to a lower－quality auditor than in the case of switching to a higher－quality one. It was found that more than fifty percent of downgrade sample(switching from a higher－quality auditor to a lower－quality auditor) discount their audit fees. In addition, the greater the fee dependence to a specific client is, the more initial audit fee discount happen. However, there is no relation between non－audit fee provision and initial audit fee discount.
