A Study on the Socially Responsible Investment and Corporate Governance

With the changes of times and the awareness of stakeholders surrounding business, whether or not companies appropriately respond to corporate governance or social responsibility concerning the environment and social issues is becoming a new standpoint of business assessment, which accordingly impacts considerably on the fiancing for the companies. So, now is the time for businesses to fully understand the point. Today, companies not only feel pressure from the investors for the socially responsible investment but also they are being watched by the stockholders to fulfill the responsibility. They should be aware of the fact that they can't exist or grow if they neglect the duty before they even think of what benefits they could be given by performing the responsibility. Corporate ignorance of the duty might cause law suits against and a boycott by customers complaining about the services and products, and series of employees' legal actions against human rights abuse or gender discrimination. In addition, residents might be against the relocation of the ignorant company to their community, ending up more problems to the company. In particular, in the relationship with the investors, unclear attitude toward ESG only means a kickout from the capital market. As everyone knows, however, SRI doesn't just function as a constraint from the corporate perspective. Companies striving for the social duty are suppose to win a high credit and fame in the society. As a consequence, they can seek better qualified employees and their stock prices will rise. If this preposition is right, consideration of the corporate social responsibility can bring about improved corporate value, naturally leading to boosting the competitiveness of the businesses. In this regard, companies should be aware of the importance of performing the social responsibility. Also, they should not consider it as loss but some smart strategies to enhance their value and competitiveness by keeping the governance transparent.
